Privacy Policy
Date last modified: July 24, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Jacobs & Associates ("Jacobs & Associates," the "Firm," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and otherwise handles personal information in connection with our website located at https://www.jacobslegal.com (the "Site"), our email communications and newsletters, and the other products and services we make available through the Site (collectively, the "Services").
This Privacy Policy is part of, and should be read together with, our Terms of Use. Please note that the Site is an informational and marketing resource. Contacting the Firm, subscribing to a newsletter, or submitting information through the Site does not create an attorney-client relationship, and information you send us before we have signed a written engagement agreement with you is not protected by the attorney-client privilege. Please do not send us confidential or sensitive information through the Site or by email until an attorney-client relationship has been established in writing.
If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Services. By accessing or using the Services, you agree to this Privacy Policy. We may update it from time to time as described in the section titled "Changes to This Privacy Policy" below, so please review it periodically.
1. Children Under the Age of 18
Our Services are intended for adults and are not directed to children under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you are under 18, please do not use the Services or provide any information about yourself to us, including your name, mailing address, telephone number, or email address. If you believe we may have collected information from a child under 18, please contact us at info@jacobslegal.com so that we can delete it.
2. Information We Collect and How We Collect It
We collect personal information in three main ways: information you provide to us directly, information we collect automatically when you use the Services, and information we receive from third parties.
a. Information You Provide to Us
You may choose to provide personal information when you interact with the Services, including:
- Contact and inquiry details, such as your name, email address, telephone number, employer or organization name, job title, and the substance of the message you send us through a contact or intake form;
- Newsletter and subscription details, such as the email address you use to subscribe to the Firm newsletter or other communications, and your related preferences;
- Event details, such as information you provide when you register for or attend a webinar, seminar, or other event we host or participate in;
- Testimonial or review content, if you choose to provide a testimonial or review;
- Payment and billing details in connection with any paid Services we may offer in the future (as described below); and
- Any other information you choose to provide to us.
Payments for any paid Services are handled directly by a third-party payment processor (for example, Stripe). We do not receive or store full payment card numbers or similar sensitive payment credentials; those are collected and processed by the payment processor under its own terms and privacy policy.
Please remember that the Site is not a secure channel for confidential legal information. Any information you transmit to us through the Site is transmitted at your own risk, and, as explained above and in our Terms of Use, is not privileged until an attorney-client relationship has been established in writing.
b. Information We Collect Automatically
When you visit or interact with the Services, we and our service providers may automatically collect certain information using cookies, web beacons, pixels, local storage, and similar technologies. This information may include your IP address, browser type and settings, operating system and device information, unique device or browser identifiers, referring and exit pages, the pages and links you view or click, and the dates and times of your visits. We use this information to operate, secure, analyze, and improve the Services, to remember your preferences, and to understand how visitors engage with our content.
Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies through your browser settings. If you disable cookies, some features of the Services may not function properly. See the section titled "Cookies, Analytics, and Your Choices" below for more information about your options.
c. Information From Third Parties
We may receive information about you from third parties, such as analytics providers, advertising and social media platforms, our newsletter and technology vendors, and publicly available sources. We may combine that information with the information we collect directly in order to operate and improve the Services.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the personal information we collect for purposes including:
- to operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Site and the Services;
- to respond to your inquiries, evaluate potential engagements, and communicate with you about your requests, including determining whether we are able to assist you and whether any conflict of interest exists;
- to send you newsletters, legal updates, and other communications you have requested, and to manage your subscription preferences;
- to provide, administer, and process payment for any paid Services we may offer, and to carry out related billing and recordkeeping;
- to understand how visitors use the Services through analytics, and to develop and improve our content and offerings;
- to promote the Firm and its Services, including through marketing communications and advertising, subject to your choices;
- to create aggregated or de-identified information that does not identify you;
- to protect the security and integrity of the Services and to detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and unlawful activity;
- to comply with applicable laws, regulations, and legal process, and to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims; and
- for any other purpose disclosed to you at the time we collect the information or with your consent.
4. How We Disclose Your Information
We do not sell your personal information for money. We may disclose personal information in the following circumstances:
- Service providers and vendors. We share information with third parties that perform services on our behalf, such as website hosting, our newsletter and email delivery platform, analytics providers, payment processing, and information-technology and marketing support. These providers are permitted to use the information only to provide services to us.
- Professional advisors. We may disclose information to our own accountants, auditors, insurers, and legal advisors as needed to operate and protect the Firm.
- Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information to comply with a court order, subpoena, law, or legal process, to respond to lawful requests from public authorities, to enforce our Terms of Use and other agreements, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of the Firm, our clients, or others.
- Business transfers. If the Firm is involved in a merger, reorganization, sale of assets, dissolution, or similar transaction, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction, consistent with applicable law.
- With your consent. We may disclose information for any other purpose with your consent or at your direction.
We may also use and disclose aggregated or de-identified information, which does not identify you, for any lawful purpose.
5. Cookies, Analytics, and Your Choices
You have several choices about how your information is collected and used:
- Email communications. You may opt out of Firm marketing emails and newsletters at any time by using the unsubscribe link in the message or by emailing us at info@jacobslegal.com. Even if you opt out of marketing messages, we may still send you communications related to an existing engagement or transaction.
- Cookies. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies through their settings. Where we display a cookie banner or preference tool on the Site, you can use it to manage your cookie choices.
- Analytics and advertising. We may use analytics services (such as Google Analytics) and advertising or social media platforms (such as LinkedIn) that use cookies and similar technologies. Depending on how these technologies are configured, their use may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under some state privacy laws. You may opt out of that activity by emailing us at info@jacobslegal.com, and where required by law we honor recognized opt-out preference signals, such as the Global Privacy Control (GPC), sent by your browser.
- Do-Not-Track signals. Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” (DNT) setting. There is currently no industry or legal standard for recognizing or honoring DNT signals, and we do not respond to them differently from other browsers. Where required by law, however, we honor recognized opt-out preference signals such as the Global Privacy Control (GPC) as described above.
6. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live and subject to applicable law, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information, including the right to request that we: confirm whether we process your personal information; provide access to or a copy of it; correct inaccuracies; delete it; provide it in a portable format; and opt out of certain processing, such as targeted advertising or any "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. To exercise any of these rights, please email us at info@jacobslegal.com.
We will respond to your request as required by applicable law. Some rights are subject to legal limitations and exceptions; for example, we may decline a request where necessary to comply with law, protect legal rights, maintain security, or where we need the information to provide a service you have requested. Where permitted by law, we may take reasonable steps to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we may require an authorized agent submitting a request on your behalf to provide proof of authorization.
If you are unhappy with our response, you may have the right to appeal or to contact your state attorney general or applicable regulator. We invite you to contact us first so that we can try to resolve your concern.
6.1 Additional Information for Residents of Other States
If you are a resident of a U.S. state with a comprehensive consumer privacy law (such as Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Utah, or others as they take effect), you may have rights similar to those described above, including the rights to confirm, access, correct, delete, and obtain a portable copy of your personal information, and to opt out of targeted advertising and any “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information. To exercise these rights, or to appeal a decision we make about a request, please contact us at info@jacobslegal.com. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law, and, where a state law provides an appeal process, we will inform you of your ability to appeal and, if applicable, to contact your state attorney general.
6.2 Additional Information for California Residents
This subsection applies to California residents and supplements the information above, as required by the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended (the "CCPA"). In the twelve (12) months before the date of this Privacy Policy, we may have collected the following categories of personal information: identifiers (such as name, email address, telephone number, and IP address); commercial information (such as records of any purchases or inquiries); internet or network activity information (such as browsing and interaction data); geolocation data (such as general location inferred from IP address); professional or employment-related information (such as job title and employer); and inferences drawn from the foregoing. We collect this information from the sources, and use and disclose it for the purposes described elsewhere in this Privacy Policy.
California residents have the right to know about the personal information we collect and how we use and disclose it; to request access to, correction of, or deletion of their personal information; and to opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, as those terms are defined under the CCPA. We do not sell personal information for money; however, as noted above, our use of certain analytics and advertising technologies may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" under the CCPA, and you may opt out by emailing us at info@jacobslegal.com or by using a recognized opt-out preference signal such as GPC. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age. California residents also have the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising their privacy rights, and, under California's "Shine the Light" law (Cal. Civ. Code Section 1798.83), to request information about disclosures of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. To make any of these requests, contact us at info@jacobslegal.com.
7. International Users
The Firm is based in the State of New York in the United States, and the Services are intended for users in the United States. If you access the Services from outside the United States, you understand that your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your location. By using the Services, you consent to that transfer and processing.
8. Data Security
We maintain reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information against accidental loss and unauthorized access, use, alteration, and disclosure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information; any transmission is at your own risk. If you create an account or receive login credentials in connection with any Services, you are responsible for keeping those credentials confidential and for all activity under your account.
9. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law (for example, to comply with legal, tax, or recordkeeping obligations, or to establish or defend legal claims). When we no longer need personal information, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it. We may retain certain information in backups for a limited additional period for security and business-continuity purposes.
10. Third-Party Links and Services
The Services may contain links to third-party websites, platforms, and services that we do not control, including social media and our newsletter platform. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party service you use.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised policy on this page and update the "Date last modified" above. If we make material changes, we will provide additional notice as required by applicable law, such as by posting a notice on the Site. Your continued use of the Services after the revised Privacy Policy takes effect constitutes your acceptance of it.
12. Governing Law
This Privacy Policy and any dispute arising out of or relating to it are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles, and are subject to the governing-law, venue, and dispute-resolution provisions of our Terms of Use.
13. Contact Us
If you have any questions or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or our handling of your personal information, please contact us at info@jacobslegal.com or through the contact information provided on the Site.
